Our good friend, and German Red Wing distributer, Fred Bschaden recently spent some time in LA with Shelter Half owner, and international man of mystery, Davide Berruto. Check out these killer photos and more on Fred’s blog.

I heard this on the radio driving through LA the other night and I had to hear it again. Bloodstone were a popular soul band in the 70’s and 80’s. One of the members’ last name is “Love.”
Environment Furniture is a company that uses reclaimed materials to make new products with personal stories. One of their unique materials is vintage military tent, otherwise known as Shelter Half. These pre-Korean war, 100% cotton tents are rare, repurposed, and result in beautifully upholstered furniture with natural army green tint. This material is also where we got the name for our store, Shelter Half.
Last night was our official launch party with Almond Surfboards and it was a blast, to say the least. The boys from Newport brought some of the cleanest, handsome, boards on the west coast and good vibes were flowing throughout the whole space. There were a lot of laughs, and some great memories were made. Thanks to Gospel Swamp for pouring coffee and thank you to everyone who could make it! See you next time!
In celebration of the holidays and one year in business together, we will be hosting a Shelter Half Holiday Market on Saturday, December 8th from 12pm to 7pm with the friends and brands that helped make this all possible! Meet the makers, drink Eggnog and eat treats by Smohk LA, and listen to classic Shelter Half vinyl tunes. Cheers!
Come check out new Stormy Monday apparel fresh and in store now! Neil Harrison, known for his handmade reclaimed skateboards and Martial Crum shaped surfboards, just dropped off this killer selection of Made in USA Tee’s and Denim. Each leather patch on every pair of denim is hand-cut and stamped by Harrison himself in his Long Beach backyard shop! Awesome stuff.
Legendary jazz composer Dave Brubeck passed away this morning in Norwalk, Conn. If you haven’t heard “Take Five” today is the day. Check out “Take Five” as the opening track to Hal Jepson’s 1971 surf film “The Cosmic” Children” and we promise you will be hooked. We honor Brubeck today by playing his tunes in our store.
Roger Lee is a rare breed. Not only is he one of the nicest, coolest guys I’ve ever met, he’s also an incredibly devoted artist. His interest in colors and texture go back to the skate & surf culture of the 60 & 70’s, seen most vividly in the stripe bowls we have exclusively here at Shelter Half. He is an LA native, and after studying ceramics at San Jose State and getting his masters in fine art and ceramics, he now works at the reputable Heath Ceramics. See more work at Katandroger.com
